Medical Care is the largest of Refuge Egypt’s programs and also one of the largest providers of medical care to the refugee community in Cairo. Led by our Medical Director, we have a staff of qualified doctors and community health workers supported by general medical and specialist volunteers. All asylum seekers and refugees may access medical care at our clinics. Individuals and families registered with Refuge Egypt are eligible for reduced cost and subsidized medications. Through partnership with UNHCR, registered refugees with the UNHCR, can access care and medication for pregnancy, and TB clinics free of charge. Primary Care Clinics We operate general clinics in Zamalek and Arba wa Nuss. In addition to primary care, gynocology and family planning clinics are also provided. Access to Secondary and Tertiary Care For further investigations, consultations, operations, or emergency care, we refer patients to hospitals in Cairo through established partnerships. Our health workers follow the care of patients referred to inpatient hospitals. Antenatal and Postnatal Care We provide care and education to mothers from pregnancy through to early years of childhood. Antenatal and Postnatal care is provided at our clinics in Zamalek and in Arba wa Nuss. Well Baby and Well Child Clinics In our Well Baby and Well Child Clinics we monitor growth and development using WHO charts and provide early childhood health education to families. The clinics also identify children who are malnourished and provide help and guidance through referral to our Malnourished Child Clinic. Well Baby and Well Child Clinics operate weekly from five different locations throughout Cairo: Zamalek, Arba wa Nuss, Ain Shams, 6th of October and Maadi. TB Clinics TB clinics in Zamalek and Arba wa Nuss provide treatment for TB cases. HIV/AIDS Clinics This clinic provides testing and counselling, treatment, including Antiretroviral drugs, in addition to providing information and education on prevention.
Home Visits and Community Education Seminars Awareness seminars and education programs are held by, and for the medical staff regularly. Many subjects have been addressed with the community, including: TB awareness, Swine flu information sessions, HIV awareness and education, seminars on child health topics, nutrition, labor, rheumatism, typhoid, anemia, hish risk pregnancies, and breast feeding. Seminars are held at the Zamalek clinic, at the AWN clinic, or in people's homes.
