Youth Mentorship

Gangs, which began to form among the youth at the beginning of 2006, have become a significant and growing problem. Inter-gang feuds, revenge fights, robberies and attacks are common, and drug and alcohol abuse is prevalent among gang members. At the root of these problems is the fact that young people often simply do not have the opportunity to participate in educational or vocational training, or to be involved in sports or social activities. By providing spiritual, social, cultural and educational activities, Refuge Egypt seeks to equip youth, enabling them to rebuild relationships and to reintegrate into the community.

The Youth Mentorship Program conducts four main activities:

Hip Hop Music Program
Working with the refugee youth to create Hip Hop music tracks based on Bible stories and values. The Youth Program also hosts concerts and music events.

Sports Program
Football fields are rented in different parts of the city during each week to provide diversion activities from gang life. There are opportunities to focus the youth on positive outlets for their physical energy.

Outreach and Conferences
Teenage conferences, Youth conferences, away days. Getting the youth out of the city to disciple them and give them hope for a future. Teaching and discipleship seminars are regularly held.

Brother to Brother Mentoring
Working with the youth and their families

“We are bringing youth in, building them up, and sending them out to be a testimony to others”                                 -Anwar, Youth Mentorship Program staff member
