For over 20 years Refuge Egypt has served the refugee community in Cairo. In line with our mission statement and our main programs (Advocacy, Medical Care, Education, Emergency Assistance, Self-Reliance, Spiritual Ministries, and Youth Mentorship), we strive to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the most vulnerable refugees while empowering them to become self-sufficient. Since 1987 we have helped support over 30,000 individuals during their first two critical years in Egypt.
Main Objectives: - Providing Health Care programmes, both curative and preventive.
- Promoting Self-Reliance and Dignity, in the form of vocational training and employment programs, as well as promoting small income generating projects.
- Education Programs, for children, youth, and adults.
- Offering Emergency Assistance in the form of food and clothing distribution to the most needy.
- Psychosocial Support and Spiritual Encouragement through counselling, community interventions and support of youth programs
- Providing a place where displaced people can feel welcome and accepted, where their concerns are taken seriously and where they can find some respite from their troubles.
- Advocacy, through assisting newcomer asylum seekers and/or providing referrals to other legal organizations and by participating in inter-agency forum.
Governance: Refuge Egypt is an institution of the Episcopal Anglican church in Egypt. As such we are accountable to the Bishop of the Diocese of Egypt via its synod and Executive Board. We have an advisory board, the site committee, made up of the officials of All Saints’ Cathedral and representatives of the congregations.
Our Commitment: Refuge Egypt provides a great opportunity for people to see Jesus Christ at work. While we are committed to serving all refugees, regardless of their religion, never forcing our faith on our clients, there is ample opportunity for everyone to encounter Christ. Our staff and volunteers are committed Christians who seek to serve Christ as they serve clients, and are willing to speak about their faith and pray with clients at their request. We believe that the care and service we provide enables us to clearly demonstrate Christ’s practical love for the broken and the weak, and we find that this often touches the hearts of people deeply. |
